OLD MISSION ST LOCATION – Independent Living Resource Center San Francisco
649 Mission Street, 3rd Floor
San Francisco, CA
94105

The Independent Living Center San Francisco (ILRCSF) will be holding a young adult and youth disability advocacy workshop led by the non-profit KidPower on Saturday, June 14, 2014 (for ages 16-22).

Pizza lunch will be provided for those in attendance.

Kidpower small group programs offer experiential, engaging practice of skills that can strengthen communication and reduce bullying — such as boundary setting, help-seeking, self-advocacy, ‘safety with words’ — through upbeat, age- and ability- appropriate activities.

12:30pm – 2:30pm FULL POWER Workshop (Ages 16 – 22)

In this second active, upbeat session, older teens, and young adults practice using “People Safety” skills to prevent, manage, or leave potentially unsafe situations with people. “People Safety” skills help prevent violence and improve communication at home, at school, out in the world, online… everywhere, with everyone.

Skills learned will include:

Assessing situations and responding quickly, projecting awareness and confidence, dealing effectively with verbal aggression, setting strong boundaries, and more!

All skills will be tailored for each participant’s visual, hearing, mobility & cognition as well as for their use of wheelchairs, service dogs, canes, and/or other forms of assistive technology.

Location for the event will be at Independent Living Resource Center San Francisco, at 649 Mission St., 3rd Floor, near the intersection of Mission and New Montgomery Streets.

Space is limited. Please RSVP ahead of time by sending an email to Derek Zarda, Youth Programming Coordinator, at derek@ilrcsf.org or by calling ILRCSF’s office at 415-543-6222. Deadline to RSVP is June 6th.
