Photographer Vicki Topaz tells the stories of our veterans who face tremendous odds upon their return from war to civilian society. This project depicts their struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other disabilities, and highlights the benefits they receive from an unlikely source—a service dog.

22 U.S. Veterans Commit Suicide Every Day

The mission:

•Inform our communities about PTSD and the role of service dogs

•Urge veterans with psychological disabilities to seek help

•Help veterans learn about the benefits of service dogs

•Promote service dogs as an alternative or complementary treatment

•Urge government to enact better legislation for veterans with hidden disabilities
