PEER COUNSELING

The Peer Counseling Program is based upon the assumption that individuals are capable of resolving their own conflicts or problems when equipped with appropriate information, resources and support. Consumers can utilize the volunteer services of Peer Counselors – trained adults with disabilities – who can listen, offer suggestions and share information about their own experiences as a people living with a disability; give consumers the opportunity to identify his/her own issues and barriers; and help clarify options and provide information about finding/utilizing community resources.

Peer counseling is available at our office located at 649 Mission Street on the 3rd Floor and at San Francisco General Hospital. Services are free of charge and available on an individual basis or group settings. Current offerings include:

  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Transition from Rehab/Nursing Home to the Community

Peer counseling is integrated into all ILRCSF direct services, as the overwhelming majority of program staff are people with disabilities.
