SYSTEMS CHANGE

Through Systems Change Advocacy, ILRCSF works to educate consumers, the general public, and those in decision- making positions, about issues critical to the well being of the disability community. The agency focuses much of its efforts on Olmstead implementation - the rights of people with disabilities to live in the most integrated community setting with appropriate community support rather than institutionalization; health care access; availability of affordable, accessible housing; and, to participate in the political process.

The agency is also involved in improving, maintaining or impacting change in areas such as Paratransit/public transportation, small business access, In Home Support Services (IHSS), language access, inclusion of people with disabilities in home delivered meals programs, curb cuts and Assistive Technology (AT). Volunteers are encouraged to participate in these efforts as part of various councils, committees, and coalitions, including Coalition of Californians on Olmstead, Mayor’s Long Term Care Coordinating Council, Housing Justice Summit, AT Network, Community Alliance of Disability Advocates, Mental Health Services Act Task Force, Human Rights Commission’s Employment Subcommittee, Human Services Network, Protection and Advocacy, Latino Partnership, and the Paratransit Coordinating Council.
