Community Leadership and Advocacy In Mentorship! (CLAIM!) has as it’s goal the growth and development of emerging leaders with disabilities from underrepresented communities. Through peer mentorship, advocacy training, and hands-on experience, CLAIM! cultivates a new generation of cross-cultural, cross-disability community advocates. Consumers with disabilities are offered training in areas such as disability rights and history, effective listening and communication skills, Direct Action Organizing, goal setting, Get Out the Vote, problem solving, non-violent communication, and effective advocacy strategy. Volunteer mentors, as well as seasoned activists representing various community and government agencies support these emerging leaders. Participants have opportunities to utilize newly acquired skills in a variety of direct action venues.
